About Us

Selection Massale was founded in 2021 by wine importer, distributor and retailer Dan Gillett. After establishing his import and distribution business in 2014, Danʼs journey in winemaking started in 2018, making Sauvignon Blanc using organic fruit sourced from the French-owned Clos Henri estate.

Over the next few years, Dan produced a number of wines while helping to grow and develop New Zealandʼs expanding new wave of natural and organic winemaking. Recognizing a demand for accessible, high-quality organic New Zealand wines, Dan founded Selection Massale. The label comprises a unique selection of organic wines, characterized by quality, purity, stability and exceptional value.

Selection Massale is a French term used to describe the traditional method of vineyard propagation and involves making a selection of particular vines within an established vineyard and using this as the genetic stock to plant a new one. Before the widespread use of single clone planting, it was not uncommon for considerable genetic diversity to exist within any well-established vineyard. Selection Massale was named to honour this concept - offering a selection of unique wines from unique vineyards selected from around New Zealand.

Stylistically, all Selection Massale wines are serious, well-made wines that speak to the vineyard, the variety, and the region they come from. The wines are inclusive - designed to be shared and enjoyed by all audiences. Selection Massale is now exported to over a dozen countries worldwide.

Selection Massale is certified sustainable by Sustainable Winegrowing New Zealand.
